GENTLE BEGINNINGS is owned by Misha Roell, CD(DONA), and also includes
the service of several doulas who provide backup support, and who share
Misha’s vision in doula work.
           
  
About Misha:

    When I discovered the field of birth support over 5 years ago, I found a
niche that would not just be a career for me, but also a delight.

    My work with childbearing families has been rewarding and diverse.  
I have provided birth support for about 5 years in all, in both hospital and
home settings and in a variety of birth choices and situations.  My
certification is with DONA International.

    One thing I love about this work is that I get to assist in welcoming
new life.  It is also a joy to witness time and again the difference that moment
by moment support makes for a birthing mother and her whole family.

    Besides birth and babies, I also pursue the fields of history, linguistics,
and ancient and modern languages and cultures.  I am half-German, grew up
bilingual, and have lived on three continents.  I enjoy swimming and being
out-of-doors under our beautiful blue Colorado sky!


Birth Philosophy:

    I view birth as a natural and wondrous process; a journey that unfolds
uniquely for each woman. I have confidence in a woman’s ability to birth to
her baby.

    I believe that the following can greatly improve one’s birth experience:

  • Accurate information, preparation, and choice  (These empower women
    /couples to make confident decisions about their care in labor and
    birth.)

  • Confidence that others are working in one’s best interests  (This frees
    the birthing woman to forget everything else and to flow with the
    processes at work in the birth of her baby.)

  • The continuous presence of an experienced support person  (As attested
    by studies, this makes a significant difference in a woman’s comfort,

Why do I love this work?
            
    I consider it an honor to be asked by a family to assist in the birth of
their baby.  In addition to helping to welcome new life, it is also rewarding to
get to see time and again the difference that moment by moment support
makes for a birthing mother and her family.
